Position Summary

Be the difference and put your passion into action — join Early Learning Corps! Across the country, thousands of kids need extra help to be ready for kindergarten. Together, we can help set children up for success!

 

As an Early Learning Impact Fellow, you will help kids develop early reading and math skills throughout the summer and school year. During the summer months, you will support academic enrichment activities designed to strengthen students’ skills. When school is in session, you’ll work closely with a teacher in a classroom to enhance daily activities and help learners ages 3-5 build both skills and confidence. Service locations may differ between the summer and school year.

 

With training and on-site coaching, you'll be equipped to help children thrive. Your commitment during the summer months and throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

How You’ll Take Action

  • Assist with summer learning and enrichment programs.
  • Be a caring adult who’s focused on helping youth participants/students build their skills and confidence.
  • Conduct skill assessments during the school year.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with the school’s on-site coach.
  • Create, plan, and lead service projects to address school needs and challenges.
  • Commit to continuous improvement through training and professional development.
  • Share your experience with the wider community as an Early Learning Corps ambassador.

It Starts with a Passion

Early Learning Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great fellows. Anyone can become a fellow as long as they have a passion to make a difference — and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our fellows are:

  • Are energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things.
  • Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team.
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions.
  • Open to making improvements based on feedback.
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here.

Perks Package

While you’re making a difference, you’ll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.

Federal Benefits include:

  • Up to $6895.00 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.
  • Time accrual toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week

40 Hours

  • $1325 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance — monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance — based on family size and income.

Early Learning Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors. Started in 2003, Early Learning Corps has helped more than 115,000 children build early literacy and numeracy skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Early Learning Corps is an Ampact educational program that is fueled by research from the National Science + Service Collaborative.
