Position Summary

Be the difference and put your passion into action — join Math Corps! Across the country, math skills are a challenge for many students. Fewer than one-third of our students are proficient in math. Together, we can help change this!

 

As a Math Impact Fellow, you will offer vital assistance to children who need extra help with basic math concepts throughout the summer and school year. During the summer months, you will support academic enrichment activities aimed at improving students’ math skills. When school is in session, you’ll be placed at a local school to tutor small groups of students in kindergarten through third grade. Service locations may differ between the summer and school year.

 

With training and on-site coaching, you'll be prepared to empower students in their math journey. Your commitment during the summer months and throughout the academic year guarantees a significant impact.

How You’ll Take Action

  • Assist with summer learning and enrichment programs.
  • Be a caring adult who’s focused on helping youth participants and students build their skills and confidence.
  • Conduct tutoring sessions and skill assessments during the school year.
  • Track student progress and regularly meet with the school’s on-site coach.
  • Create, plan, and lead service projects to address school needs and challenges.
  • Commit to continuous improvement through training and professional development.
  • Represent Math Corps at school events and share your experience with the community to raise awareness.

It Starts with a Passion

Math Corps takes everyday people and trains them to be great fellows. Anyone can become a fellow as long as they have a passion to make a difference — and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our Math Impact Fellows are:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions.
  • Open to making improvements based on feedback.
  • Capable of setting a pace and maintain a schedule with students.
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online).
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing .
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.

*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here

Perks Package

While you’re making a difference, you’ll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.

Federal Benefits include:

  • Up to $6895.00 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.
  • Time accrual toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week

40 Hours

  • $1325 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance — monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance — based on family size and income.
